Recasting Sookie Stackhouse

July 5th 2009 02:48
If You Could Recast Sookie Stackhouse on True Blood Who Would You Pick?

So I want to say right off, that I love True Blood and I was a big fan of the books. However, when I first started watching True Blood I was deeply disappointed with the casting of Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse. It's not to say that Anna Paquin isn't a fantastic Oscar/Emmy winning actress. She is. And I loved her In X-Men. I hate to be one of those "people", who complain that the t.v show/movie isn't exactly the same as the book, but dammit, Anna Paquin was not who I pictured when reading the book. Book Sookie was tall and had long blond hair, and was sort of cheerleaderesque. So, here were a couple of other choices I feel would have been more in keeping with the book.

Elisha Cuthbert- Ok, I know what you are thinking, but ONLY if she could act. She has the looks for the book Sookie, but if she does to True Blood, what she did to 24, count her out.
Elisha Cuthbert

Kirsten Dunst- Dunst needs a new meatier role. And if she grew her hair back out long I can totally see her as Sookie. Again, she may have a problem in the acting department.

Rachel McAdams- It's mainly my huge girl crush on Rachel that makes me include her on this list. And, I feel like she can do anything she puts her mind to. But she may have a little too much substance to play Sookie, who people tended to look down on, thinking that she's mentally impaired. Oh Rachel, I still love you. As a friend. Geez.

Heather Graham
- Ideally, she's the perfect Sookie. She may be getting a little old, but she's Sookie. What True Blood sometimes forgets to remind their audience is that Sookie is borderline insane sometimes due to her mind reading abilities. She can be practically disabled. She also will use her perky blondness to stop people from guessing her secret abilities and will allow them to think that she's just a dumb blond. Heather Graham, I believe in you. Your a great actress and it's time someone took you seriously.

Heather Graham is a bad idea mostly due to her age, Kirsten Dunst is still short so I think you are waaay off there, I agree you must have added Rachel McAdams purely because you are crushing because she would not fit the part at all, and Elisha Cuthrbert - ew no.

Anna Paquin was not who I pictured for Sookie, and her teeth are distracting and her acting skills and accent leave something to be desired, but I guess she almost fits the part because of all the reasons she is wrong for it. Perhaps she might even be able to improve upon it given the chance.

in the books shes also a size 8, i was thinking more of a younger christina hendricks, as a blonde of course. but then again i dont think the show would have been as successful if they had stayed true to the books line for line, somethings you just cant translate onto screen and still be successful. sad but true.

i think anna performs very well as sookie. i dont think its fair that you condemn her becuase she doesnt live up to your book expectations. the majority of your list have had some serious "acting" issues and you have nominated them because of a crush? why not put katie cassidy on the list too. or jeri ryan. come to think of it katie might not be a bad choice. katie for the next sookie, ya'll!!!

All of these choices are awful. Anna Paquin suit the role perfectly. Some people get too caught up in their own fantasies when reading a book. It's interesting how you'd all love a hot blonde stunner as the lead.

I think Anna Paquin was the perfect choice as well. She's a fantastic actress, she cliques perfectly with the entire cast, and she's exactly what I envisioned while reading the books. She has that unexplainable charm to her that Sookie absolutely needed, an absolute fae-like quality about her, and she's not a stick-thin model with perfectly proportioned everything. I'd disagree with each on of your alternate preferences. Christina Hendricks as a blond would have been a super choice, but I think Anna Paquin really is that opposite. ...How in the world did I even end up on this site anyways!?!?!!?

Kirsten effing Dunst and 40-year-old Heather Graham??? That's what you come up with? You've gotta be sh*tting me. You have officially lost the right to complain about Anna Paquin's casting. Ho. Lee. Crap.
