True Blood Recap: Frenzy

August 31st 2009 22:51
Frenzy
Or
Teacup Humans

Evan Rachel Wood

This show was less action packed than last weeks. But what we got was a setup for the season finale, all the pieces are in place for dynamite ending.

The Queen of Louisiana is enjoying a snack from the groin of a young blond woman as Bill enters her palace. She also rocks an adorable red 30's style coif and delights in jerking him around into hanging out with her before she tells him any information about the maenad.

Hoyt takes his bitten mother back home, appalled that Jessica would hurt her, but before long, after she callously declares that his father secretly killed himself and might have been gay, I'm sure he wanted to hurt her himself. Jason and Andy tool around Bon Temps scoring guns and ammo from the precinct and generally working out their differences to become best buddies and the self anointed saviors of Bon Temps.

At the house of LaFayette, newly "saved" Tara is handcuffed to a chair so that she doesn't run back to the lair of Mariann to save Eggs. So, she emotionally blackmails her mother into turning on Sookie & LaFayette, allowing her to escape so she can rescue Eggs from the lair. You know, is it wrong that I don't really care anymore? Tara's character has become so grating and annoying, I wouldn't be at all upset if she doesn't survive the season. The only thing interesting about her this episode was the realization that Marianne was somehow summoned during her own demon exorcism last season. If Tara doesn't survive (ok, so I don't really mean it), can she be replaced by LaFayette as Sookie's new BFF? Predictably, Tara runs back to Eggs only to be welcomed back into the fold my Marianne. She never stood a chance.

Sookie and LaFayette were adorable in their mutual "I have disturbing sex dreams about Eric" bonding. Both were disturbed by their blood connection to Eric and I can only hope that brings them closer. They team up to infiltrate Sookie's old home to save Tara (again). Sookie stands and watches the desecration in her house. Last season, the desecration was her own family, her Gran was killed, Jason was estranged. This season, the desecration was physical. She enters her kitchen to see Jane Bodehouse cutting off her finger and a grown naked man sitting in her sink clutching fresh intestines. Gross. She unwisely heads upstairs to find Eggs and Tara smashing her Grandmother's possessions and building a nest. For an egg, a literal egg. It looks huge and prehistoric, and wtf? I am so confused. I really don't know how Tara can come back from this with Sookie.

When Sam discovers Arlene's two kids running wild in the woods, he feeds them and gets the idea to ask Eric for help in defeating Mariann. They all go to Fangtasia! The kids watch as Sam and Eric barter for services, Eric wanting Sookie Stackhouse and Sam being unable to provide Sookie Stackhouse, because he already tried that for himself with no success. So Eric decides that Sam will owe him one. This is all secondary to the hilariousness that is Arlene's kids in their awe of Eric Northman. Also interesting is Eric's fascination with them as either 1). Delicious or 2) How cutely miniature they were, with him calling them "Teacup Humans" lol. I would like to believe it was because he found them fascinating, not because he wanted to eat them. But he did decide to help them by visiting the Queen of Louisiana and he did show off for the kids a bit by wishing them a good evening before speeding off into the sky.

Finally, Bill is bored and antsy at the Queen's Court, where he is forced to wear board shorts while "sunbathing" and playing Yahtzee while the Queen gives him juicy tidbits about Maenads. Apparently, they are immortal and they spend their entire existence trying to call the God Who Comes into marriage? Which in effect means that the god deems her offering good enough and decides to marry her. I think. I don't really know. That she won't go away until she has her sacrifice and that doesn't look good for Sam. All that we know is that Sookie's missing cousin Hadley is the Queen's lover and that somehow the Queen is extremely familiar with exactly who Sookie Stackhouse is. The question is why?

Here's the score: Marianne 2 (Sookie & Tara in her possession): Bon Temps 0.
